HIIT vs. LISS - How to Burn More Fat in Less Time
HIIT vs. LISS.....Are you aware of the difference?
If not, this could be the crucial missing link that's been holding you back from really blasting fat.
First, let's define the difference between "HIIT & LISS" cardio.
LISS stands for "Low Intensity Steady State" cardio, and usually refers to long duration activities like distance running, biking or walking (think 30+ mins of traditional "cardio" exercise).
Keep in mind -- Doing TOO much LISS cardio
can actually reverse your progress. Yikes!!
HIIT on the other hand, stands for "High Intensity Interval Training" and this is my favorite type of workout for many reasons:
HIIT Intervals are short and effective – Just 2 weeks of high-intensity intervals improves your aerobic capacity as much as 6-8 weeks of endurance training. How? Every time you do HIIT you are pushing your body into the anaerobic zone & increasing your VO2 max for both high intensity & endurance activities.
HIIT training increases EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) -- This results in an elevated fat loss state for up to 24 hours after you finish your workout, meaning you’ll be burning calories (and fat!) at a higher rate the rest of the day!
Increases Metabolic Rate -- According to the American College of Sports Medicine, during HIIT cardio, a person consumes more oxygen than in slower, distance exercise, which can increase post-exercise metabolism.
These are just a few of the many reasons to incorporate a high intensity routine into your workout schedule at least once per week. I recommend HIIT twice a week with other cross-training workouts during the week.
